FAQs
Q: Is my osteopath qualified?
It is illegal to claim to be an osteopath unless they are registered with the General Osteopathic Council, the governing body which regulates osteopaths. All osteopaths must complete a four year degree course and be shown to take part in post graduate lectures/courses to show they are up to date with changes in the profession.
Q: Will treatment hurt?
It is not uncommon to feel some discomfort after treatment, much like the feeling you get after exercise. However, most people feel very little discomfort.
Q: How do I claim on my health insurance?
Osteopathy is covered under most health insurance companies. You will need to contact the insurance company before your first appointment as you will need to get an authorisation number in order to claim for treatment. You may also need a GP referral in order to be given cover for osteopathic treatment.
Q: How many sessions will I need?

Q: Is osteopathy safe?
Osteopathy is one of the safest forms of manual treatment. If you have any concerns please feel free to discuss them with your osteopath.
Q: Do I need to be referred by my GP?
No you don't need to be referred by your GP. However some health insurance companies do require a GP referral in order to cover you for a course of osteopathic treatment.
